We’re marking The National Lottery’s 25th birthday by bringing people together.

We’re offering people and communities with great ideas the chance to receive a grant between £100 and £1,000.

Applications for #CelebrateNationalLottery25 have now closed.

If you’ve submitted an application you can still log on and download your form if you need it for future reference. We hope to let you know by email whether you have been successful by 31 January 2020.

How will we choose who to fund?

#CelebrateNationalLottery25 is about people and communities joining in with our birthday celebrations.

We’re expecting a lot of people to apply so to give everyone a fair chance we will use a lottery process, randomly selecting the applicants to be assessed.

Before entering the lottery here’s a few things you need to know

Everyone who submits an application will be entered into the lottery draw, which will take place after the deadline closes at 2pm on Friday 6 December 2019. We’ll then run a few straightforward checks to make sure that applications meet our eligibility criteria and genuinely benefit the community.

We will have separate lottery draws for Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and within different regions in England to ensure a fair distribution of #CelebrateNationalLottery25 funding across the UK.

We hope to let you know by email whether you have been successful by 31 January 2020.

Who can apply?

You can apply if you are:

  • two or more people applying together
  • a group or club (constituted or un-constituted)
  • a voluntary or community organisation
  • a registered charity
  • a not-for-profit company (including companies limited by guarantee) or community interest company
  • a school, college or university
  • a statutory body (including, town, parish and community council).

Un-constituted groups are eligible to apply. This could be an existing informal group, or people coming together for the first time. For this funding, we’ll ask you to agree to a simple set of rules which will help you run the group, make decisions about your event, activity or purchase, and manage any money given to you. This will only last for the duration of the grant.

We cannot accept applications from:

  • an individual
  • sole traders
  • organisations that are aimed at generating profits primarily for private distribution
  • organisations based outside the UK
  • one individual or organisation applying on behalf of another
  • people under the age of 18.

Please note that you can only be named as a main or second contact on one application. The main and second contact can’t be married, in a civil partnership, in a long-term relationship, living together or related by blood.

We can only accept one application per group.

What can you spend the money on?

We can pay for event, activity, or item costs, between £100 and £1,000 that will bring people together between 1 February and 31 December 2020.

We can fund a wide range of items, such as:

  • event and activity costs
  • equipment
  • staff costs
  • training costs
  • transport
  • utilities/running costs related to your idea
  • volunteer expenses

We can’t fund

  • activities outside the UK
  • alcohol
  • items which will only benefit an individual or family, rather than the wider community
  • activities that generate profits for private gain
  • religious activity (although we can fund religious organisations if their project benefits the wider community and doesn’t include religious content)
  • statutory activities (for example, we can only fund school activities that are additional to the curriculum)
  • political activities
  • costs that have already been incurred
  • loan repayments

What we need to know

Below is an outline of what you’ll be asked to include in your application. Here is a handy checklist of all the information you’ll need to complete your application form.

Contact details

You’ll need to give the name, address, contact details and date of birth of both the main contact and the second contact. The named contacts can’t be married, in a civil partnership, in a long-term relationship, living together or related by blood. Both contacts need to live in the UK.

Group/Organisation details

You don’t need to be a formal group to apply – you can apply even if you are just two or more people who have a great idea to bring people together in your community.

About your event, activity or item being purchased

We’ll ask you to tell us:

  • What you would like to do and why (50-200 words)
  • When you plan to bring people together
  • How much money you’re applying for (between £100 and £1,000) and what it will be spent on
Who will benefit from this funding?

Although this will not be formally assessed, this information will help us understand who will benefit from your funding.
